Encounters & Combat
The below procedure is used to play out scenes where time is of the essence, and each character must make split-second decisions. This includes fights, flights, pursuit, ambushes, traps, and even simply talking and negotiating. These scenes are known as encounters.
- Surprise: The GM rolls for surprise, if applicable.
- Set the Scene: The GM describes the scene, including what you can see and the distance to relevant objects or creatures.
- Initiative: Any sides that are not surprised roll initiative to determine who acts first.
- Actions: Any sides that are not surprised decide how they will respond to the encounter. After the initial round, each side alternates turns until the encounter is over.
